The Geniune Dermaroller itself is a medical grade roller that is manufactured with hundreds of high quality micro-surgical precision needles maintained around a rolling device. These tiny needles are rolled over the area to be treated creating hundreds of microscopic channels to a depth of 1.5 mm in the dermis of the skin. This triggers a wound healing response within the dermis which in turn encourages new collagen formation.
A detailed medical history is taken to establish that there are no contraindications to treatment. There are a number of people who cannot have the Genuine Dermaroller Therapy. These include: pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals who form keloid scars, have active skin infection (including cold sores) or have been on Roaccutane within the last 6 months. Caution is required in those with a history of cold sores.
Following a thorough initial assessment the treatment regimen can be planned.
Prior to the treatment itself it is important to prepare the skin with therapeutic doses of topical Vitamin C preparations. This improves the overall results.
A topical anaesthetic is applied for 30 minutes to reduce any discomfort. The treatment itself involves the micro-needles being applied evenly over the skin. This may take 10-60 minutes dependent on the size of the region to be treated and specific indication of treatment.
Immediately after the procedure there will be redness resembling mild to moderate sunburn. This will resolve after approximately 1 day. There may also be some minor flaking and dryness for 2-3 days. Very rarely hyper-pigmentation can occur though this usually resolves after 1 month.
It is important to maintain a strict post-treatment protocol to maximise the results following Genuine Dermaroller Therapy. This includes the application of topical skincare preparations which provide adequate sun protection and moisture to the skin. An optional ‘at home’ treatment roller to use for the next 3 months will further improve the outcome.
As the results of the treatment depend on new collagen formation, it will take 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen. The process will continue over the following months resulting in a natural, long lasting enhancement.
